# First-Time Heli Skiing at Snowwater: What You Need to Know

Thinking about your first heli-skiing trip? You’re not alone. Many of our guests arrive having never stepped into a helicopter before—and leave counting the days until they can come back. Here’s a clear look at the ability level, fitness expectations, and what the experience actually feels like at Snowwater, plus how we help your body recover so you can ski hard every day.

### What Ability Level Do I Need for First-Time Heli Skiing?

Snowwater is best suited to strong intermediate to advanced skiers and snowboarders. You should feel comfortable:

- Skiing or riding confidently on black-diamond runs at a resort
- Handling variable snow, including deep powder, chopped-up snow, and steeper fall-line terrain
- Moving through trees and unprepared slopes with control

Previous off-piste or powder experience is a big advantage, but you don’t need to be an expert who hucks cliffs. Our guides choose terrain that matches the group’s ability and the day’s conditions. Small groups of just four guests mean your guide can keep a close eye on everyone and adjust the pace so the day stays fun rather than overwhelming.

If you’re a solid intermediate who loves powder and is willing to listen and adapt, you’ll do well here.

### How Fit Do I Need to Be?

Unlimited vertical means long, rewarding days. You’ll typically ski or ride multiple long runs in deep snow, which works different muscles than resort skiing. Good overall fitness makes a noticeable difference in how much you enjoy the trip and how well you recover overnight.

Focus on:

- Leg strength and endurance (especially quads, glutes, and core)
- Cardiovascular fitness so you can keep moving all day
- Balance and mobility for variable terrain

You don’t need to be an elite athlete, but arriving in reasonable shape will help you get the most out of every day. Many first-timers are surprised by how much more enjoyable the skiing becomes once their legs are ready for it.

### What Should I Expect as a First-Timer?

Your first morning includes safety training, gear fitting, and a helicopter briefing. After that, the focus shifts to skiing. Days are full, the powder is deep, and the terrain ranges from open alpine bowls to perfectly gladed trees.

Because we keep groups small and fly the high-performance A-Star, the pace stays efficient. You’ll spend more time skiing and less time waiting. And thanks to our snowcat backup, weather that grounds the helicopter doesn’t mean a day off—you’ll still be out in the powder.

Expect to feel challenged, exhilarated, and happily tired by the end of each day.

### How Does Snowwater Help With Recovery?

We know hard days in deep snow take a toll. That’s why recovery is built into the experience at the Evergreen Spa.

You’ll have access to:

- Two full-time massage therapists (pre-booking is recommended—spots go quickly)
- Hot spa / outdoor hot tub
- Cold plunge
- Sauna
- Steam room
- A gym for light workouts or mobility work
- Early-morning yoga and stretching sessions

Many guests start the day with yoga or a quick stretch, then finish with a soak, plunge, or massage. The combination helps muscles recover so you can show up strong the next morning.
